Minister of Health
Budi Gunadi Sadikin opened his voice about the improvement of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the provision of worm drugs, the impact of a 4 -year -old toddler’s death case named Raya in Sukabumi, West Java.
Budi said the Ministry of Health still encountered a number of records regarding the problem. One problem arises in areas where sanitation is bad, so the risk of spreading worms becomes high.
“So, the number one, indeed we still encounter quite a lot of worms in areas whose sanitation is not good,” Budi Gunadi Sadikin said at the Wondr ITB Ultra Marathon 2025 press conference at Grha BNI, Central Jakarta, Sunday (8/24).
“The toilet latrines are still mixed, not accommodated, it is a source of intestinal worms. Indeed, the best if it can be repaired by the house, especially the toilet, so that it can be separated between dirty channels and clean water channels,” he continued.
The Minister of Health then emphasized that worm pain medicine is easily obtained because it is available at the Puskesmas.Consumption of worm medicine for children is also done only once every six months.
Budi then urged the public to take advantage of the free health check program from the government, including for children. The health check will detect the child’s condition, such as the possibility of experiencing worm pain.
The Minister of Health also encourages parents to be diligent in examining children if they find symptoms of worm disease so that they can be treated as early as possible.
“The intestinal worms are easy. Taken once [every] 6 months, finished. In the puskesmas there is. This is an opportunity, if a free health check is discovered if there is a worm or not by a doctor,” he said.
“It’s just diligent in being invited, especially children. If they have symptoms of worms, they will be discovered when free health checks, just take medicine every 6 months,” Budi continued.
Coordinating Minister PMK Pratikno previously said the Ministry of Health would improve the SOP for giving worm medicine.Through this change, the administration of worm medicine will be witnessed directly by health workers and not brought home the patient.
In addition, Pratikno said the Ministry of Health would also improve referral SOP from the Puskesmas to the hospital. He said the Puskesmas would not only issue a referral letter to the hospital.
The plan was revealed after the case of death, a 4 -year -old toddler in Sukabumi, who was found dead in a lot of worms in his body.
“The Ministry of Health will improve the SOP of officers in the field, that when giving drugs to the patient, especially if actually the worm medicine is only every 6 months, it should be exercised properly, actually given to children, not given and then brought home,” Pratikno said at JIExpo, Jakarta, Friday (8/22).
A toddler named Raya died with his body condition filled with worms.
During the observation period, the doctor found worms coming out of the nose.More than one kilogram of living worms was successfully removed from his body before he died.
