Awareness of choosing halal skin care products continues to increase with the rise of beauty trends, especially in Indonesia, the majority of the population of Muslims.
The LPPOM MUI Expert of Laboratory, Priyo Wahyudi, emphasized that the use of halal skincare is not only related to appearance, but also part of maintaining beliefs and protecting themselves from the risk of dangerous products.
“Choosing skincare today is no longer just a matter of caring for the skin, but also part of maintaining beliefs and security. Halal and safe products provide inner peace as well as protection from the risk of hazardous materials or fake claims that often ensnare consumers,” Priyo said, Tuesday (30/9).

He stressed, consumers must be more critical when making choices.Starting from checking the legality of the product, understanding the ingredients, to avoid excessive instant promises.
According to him, these steps are important so that the products used are truly halal, safe, and according to skin needs.
“That way, outward beauty remains in line with the value of faith that is believed,” he said.
He also shared a few tips in choosing halal and safe skincare. Here are some tips:
Check product legality
Make sure the skincare has a notification number for the Drug and Food Control Agency (BPOM) that can be checked through the BPOM Check website/application.
In addition, make sure there is a BPJPH official halal logo on the packaging.Since the enactment of PP 42/2024, the inclusion of the halal logo has become mandatory for halal certified products.
Alert to import products
Many imported beauty products enter without BPOM notification and halal certification, even through smuggling channels or deposit services. For international brands, select variants that have been bpom and halal registered in Indonesia.
Adjust to the skin type
Skincare is personal so that each individual has a different level of compatibility. For this reason, recognize the type of skin-dry, oily, or sensitive-and-select products with the right halal active ingredients, such as niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, or vitamin C from vegetable sources.
Avoid excessive claims and low prices
Priyo reminded, no skincare is able to change the skin instantly.Original products usually display realistic claims, for example the results are seen in 2-4 weeks.
Meanwhile, excessive promotion with prices far below the market should be suspected as a fake product or not halal. For this reason, consumers need to be critical of hyperbolic advertisements.
Buy from trusted sources
Products should be obtained through official distributors, trusted stores, or official stores both online and offline.Significant price differences can be a sign of fake products.
Look at the composition
Get used to reading the ingredient list to ensure products are free from dangerous materials, such as mercury, excessive hydrokuinone, or steroids.Content guidelines can refer to Appendix Perbpom 17: 2022 concerning Technical Requirements for Cosmetics Materials.
Self -education through digital literacy
Social media can be a source of information as well as risk.Consumers can follow the official BPOM account, LPPOM or trusted dermatologist to get the correct education.
In addition, joining a credible beauty community can help recognize trends while distinguishing original and fake products.
Pay attention to prices and quality
If the price is too cheap for premium products, it is likely that the item is fake.Consumers need to understand that prices are proportional to quality and security.
Report suspicious product
If you find skincare that does not have a distribution permit or doubt its halal, consumers can report it to BPOM, BPJPH, or through official applications such as BPOM Mobile. This active attitude helps protect the wider community.
Halal skincare is now not only a trend, but a real need for the majority Muslim Indonesian people. With the closer implementation of the mandatory halal regulation contained in Government Regulation (PP) Number 42 of 2024, consumers are required to be smarter and more critical in choosing skin care products.
Not just beautiful, the use of halal skincare is also a form of protection, safety, and compliance with the values of faith.
