The planned destruction of Babun has actually been announced since February 2024. The zoo stated that he had reviewed several offers to accommodate some of these animals, but nothing could be realized.

The Babun Guinea population at the zoo had reached 43, far exceeding the capacity of the cage built in the late 2000s for 25 animals plus their children.This condition is said to have triggered an increase in conflict among these animals.
The zoo claims to have taken previous steps to overcome this problem, with 16 Babun was transferred to the zoo in Paris and China since 2011.
However, the animal zoo, including one in Spain which previously also received Babun, has now reached the maximum capacity.The contraceptive efforts made several years ago were also stopped because they did not produce the desired results.
