The tourists were asked to stay away from the “Instagrammable” Lavender field in the city

on weekends. The local Mayor has asked visitors to try to come between Monday to Thursday when the atmosphere is calmer.
Lavender fields have attracted more than 100,000 visitors in July 2025, producing 8 million euros or around Rp137 billion) for the local economy.
The tourists were asked to stay away from the famous Lavender field in Spain, which is known for producing Instagram photos that attract attention, on weekends because visitors density began to be difficult to manage.
The city of Brihuega in Spain attracts thousands of visitors every year, many are interested in the beautiful Lavender fields that stretch an area of 1,000 hectares and functions as an amazing place for social media photos.
This area has become more popular over the past decade, with the entry of tourism helping to fight depopulation in the rural city. This period has seen an increase of 24 percent in population and millions of euros entered the local economy.
However, Brihuega is at risk of becoming a victim of his own success, because more tourists flocked to the fields to pose between the sea of purple flowers, putting increased pressure on local services.
More than 100,000 people visited the fields in July 2025, the only full blooming moon, put pressure on the nearest small town, which only had less than 3,000 residents.
Although the region recognizes that the Lavender field plays an important role in its economy, Mayor of Brihuega, Luis Viejo, has asked tourists to avoid visits on weekends.
“Take for example last Saturday: the village was paralyzed. It was a difficult time for me,” Luis Viejo told the Spanish national daily newspaper

“We have a variety of tourist, cultural, and artistic offers thanks to lavender,” he said.”But my advice is that people come and visit us between Monday to Thursday, please! The weekend is more difficult because many people come,” he continued.
The main problem is the density on the narrow streets of the historic Brihuega, with parking become chaotic, especially during the blooming season.
“Towards next year, we need to build a ‘Park-and-Ride’ parking lot on the edge of a historic center and connect it with a shuttle bus,” Luis Viejo said.
In the latest letter to the population, Luis Viejo confirmed that the permanent park-and-and-idea parking lot will be built, complete with a shuttle bus to try to make everyday life easier for residents in the city.
The Mayor also explained that access to free fields, so the village does not have the authority to limit the number of visitors or collect tourist fees.Although problems arise due to extraordinary crowd, the number of tourists has brought 8 Euros million to the local economy during the lavender season so far.
“Managing the entry of visitors that big in that short time is difficult. We work hard, we have a security committee, but still the number of visitors is large,” said the mayor.
Luis Viejo added that the challenge was trying to attract tourists throughout the year and spread visitors, rather than just seeing a surge in the summer when Lavender bloomed.
He said the city council was trying to promote a visit to the Sumac field in October and November, with the slopes of the hill turned into dark red in the fall.
