A VIP lounge on
airport
China triggered an online debate after imposing a proof of proof of asset ownership of at least 20 million yuan or around Rp46 billion to be able to access its services.
On July 17, a Chinese citizen shared his experience rejected
International First Class Lounge
At Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, Sichuan Province, Southwest China.
“I arrived earlier at the airport and looked for online lounges,” he wrote.”I see that the Golden Sunflower client can access it, and because I am one of them, I called to be sure. That’s when I knew that I needed to verify assets worth 20 million yuan, and property and car were not counted! Poverty really limits my imagination!”he wrote again, as reported
South China Morning Post
.
He has ordered economy class tickets, but hopes to use lounges in terminal 1 of the airport as part of the benefits of his golden sunflower membership.
According to information available to the public, the Golden Sunflower card usually requires an average monthly balance of 500,000 yuan to meet the requirements, with lounge access advertised as the main benefit.
The airport staff explained that the current asset verification requirements are only valid at Chengdu Tianfu Airport. The high volume of passengers and excessive lounge capacity at the airport caused the enactment of this new policy in an effort to ensure the quality of service.
China Merchants Bank confirmed that the rules at the airport lounge have been in effect since June 2024.
This incident then triggered a fierce debate in cyberspace.”I think this is a bit outrageous,” commented a user on social media.
“Someone with a savings of 20 million (yuan) will not fly with economy class,” wrote Chinese social media users.
“They only serve rich people, rich people are real customers,” said another upload.
“This is what happens when they are too free to issue a Golden Sunflower card. They advertise access to VIP lounges when we register, and now they do assets checking? This really damages the reputation of the card,” the writing of social media users.
