Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin even said, the number of infant deaths in Indonesia is only better than Laos and Myanmar.

Budi also highlighted trends that continue to increase from year to year.He warned that Indonesia should not be overtaken by countries that were previously below.
In addition, Budi also alluded to data collection that might not be accurate.It could be that the amount recorded is still not fully describing the conditions on the ground.The reason is, similar experiences occurred during Pandemi Covid-19, when many cases were not recorded.

Many infant deaths occur in hospitals
The Ministry of Health data shows that more than 90 percent of infant deaths occur in hospitals, with about 60 percent of cases due to delays in referrals.
“If 92 to 95 percent of deaths occur in hospitals, it means that the hospital system must be taken care of, ranging from governance, handling infections, operating rooms, to neonatal services,” Budi said.
He added, Puskesmas and midwives still need to be strengthened.However, the mother and child referral hospital must actually be a top priority.
He also mentioned the three main causes of infant death in Indonesia.Among these are sepsis, respiratory problems, and congenital abnormalities.
Budi rate, the inability of health facilities to handle basic things such as sepsis become an alarm for the health system.
“The period of taking care of the sepsis room is still a problem. If the hospital is not cleared, it is difficult to reduce this mortality rate,” he said.
Budi reminded, the issue of maternal and infant mortality is not just a matter of data, but regarding human lives.
“Try to imagine that the one who died is our own family. We should not just be tight, but the amount of death is not down,” he said.
The Minister of Health asked all parties from the center to the regions to seriously reduce the maternal and infant mortality rates.
“If we can complete the recording system, hospitals, and referral services, I am sure we can press the mortality rate,” he concluded.
