During a century, the batik business was managed by descendants of Oey Soe Tjoen, namely his son, Oey Kam Long, only later to his grandson, Widianti Widjadja or Oey Kiem Lian.
“I still use the batik in his day and dad. They began to work in the day of his father,” said Widianti Widjadja or Oey Kiem Lian when met at the Oey Soe Tjoen batik exhibition in Jakarta, some time ago.
“There are some young people who make batik, but the standard is not in accordance with what I want. So fear of lowering the standard,” he continued.
Widianti’s difficulty did not stop at the problem of finding batik workers who were in accordance with standards, even their children were not interested in plunging into this batik business.
But the woman 23 November 1976 did not give up.In order to maintain hereditary stories and celebrate 100 years of Oey Soe Tjoen batik, Widianti held an exhibition at the Emiria Soenassa Gallery at Taman Ismail Marzuki on July 25 to August 3, 2025.
In this exhibition, the name Oey Soe Tjoen is fully celebrated.The name Oey Soe Tjoen is displayed big at the gallery entrance.
The red door with batik motifs became the first layer door for visitors to the batik exhibition which was opened for free.After that, visitors will stand in front of other red doors that are typical of Chinese as the second layer door.
When the second layer door opens, visitors can trace a variety of batik cloth on display.The 1st floor is the first and second generation work, while the second floor is the work of the third generation or the Widianti era.
This exhibition features the story and struggle of Oey Soe Tjoen’s batik which until now is still firm in holding the technique of making written batik on two sides of the fabric.
But it is not only written batik techniques that make Oey Soe Tjoen’s batik work unique, but also because it has a style that is rich in cultural and historical values, as well as complicated composition of gradations.
In order to achieve perfection, Oey Soe Tjoen’s batik is also produced through a process of work that takes an average of 3 years for each stray.These various advantages make Oey Soe Tjoen batik more than just cloth, but an art masterpiece.
That is what makes this adibusana literature unbushed or comparable, especially with print mass techniques.
Meanwhile, on the second floor or the Widianti era, there are batik with a comic character motif from Belgium, Tintin, and various other famous figures such as Nyi Roro Kidul.
“In accordance with the condition of Mrs. Widi, so Mrs. Widi is a fan of Tintin. There are three Center Piece, namely Ratu Kidul, Dewi Kwan IM, and Mother Mary. That represents him,” said the Chairperson of the Exhibition Organizer, Damiana Widowati.
“Dewi Kwan Im is because she is Chinese peranakan. Queen Kidul because she lives in Java. Then the Virgin Mary because she is Catholic.

Not much is expected by Widianti Widjadja from the exhibition which was closed on August 3, 2025, other than that the names of her grandfather and father and family were engraved in the collective memory of the Indonesian people.
He is also gathering a team that can help to record the work of Batik Oey Soe Tjoen so that everything is well recorded.
“I want Oey Soe Tjoen even though I will be unable to continue, there is still a footsteps that in Indonesia there was an Oey Soe Tjoen batik,” said Widianti Widjadja.
