According to him, the main cause is no longer injured, but a static lifestyle dominated by sitting too long and staring at the screen.
“The majority of spinal problems are now not due to serious illness, but due to our own lifestyle,” Andra said during a media meeting in Jakarta, Wednesday (9/17).
He added, a drastic increase time time also made the case of neck pain soared.
“Patients with neck pain are now more than before,” he added.Nevertheless, he did not specify how exactly the increase in cases of back pain and neck pain.
Furthermore, he said the average human now spends up to 16 hours per day for activities.Unfortunately, many do not pay attention to sitting or sleeping positions. In fact, two of the three spinal problems can actually be prevented if the posture is maintained properly.
Back pain itself is divided into two categories, namely mechanical and non-mechanical.Mechanical pain includes about 80 percent of cases, usually occurs because bones, joints, muscles, or spinal cushions are unable to withstand certain positions, for example sitting too long.
While non-mechanical pain is less rare, but dangerous. This type of pain arises not because of activity, but because of serious conditions such as infection or tumor.
“Non-mechanical low back pain is usually accompanied by weakness or paralysis. That needs to be aware of,” he explained.
Symptoms that should not be ignored
There are several signs of back pain that should be immediately examined by a doctor.Among others:
• Weight loss for no apparent cause.
• Muscle weakness in the arms or legs.
• A sense of numbness or tingling in the limbs.
This symptom can be a signal of a more serious spinal disorder and should not be underestimated.
“What is difficult is not the treatment, but starting a healthy lifestyle. If it can be done early on, many spinal problems can be prevented,” he concluded.
